Service Provider Core Router Sales Rise High Single Digits in 3Q15 versus 3Q14, According to Dell'Oro Group

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Dec. 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recently published report from Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, Service Provider Core Router sales rose nine percent in 3Q15 versus 3Q14, following strong growth in 2Q15.  Sales from Alcatel-Lucent, Juniper, and ZTE out-paced the market.

"Operator build out of their 100 Gbps Ethernet backbones drove the growth in core routers.  We expect this momentum to continue into 2016 as newer core router platforms and line cards go from test to deployment stages, and next generation 100 Gbps Ethernet optical interfaces become available," said Alam Tamboli, Senior Analyst at Dell'Oro Group.  "Looking at the other portions of the IP/MPLS/Ethernet network, Edge sales were down while Access was up.  After strong results in 2014 for the Edge Router market, Service Providers in several regions cut back spending.  In China—one of the biggest drivers of growth over the past several years—spending has shifted from routers used for FTTx networks to routers and carrier Ethernet switches used for mobile backhaul.  Recently, router and carrier Ethernet switch deployments for mobile backhaul in China have softened," Tamboli added.
