Serials Solutions' unique "match and merge" technology brings together information from multiple sources to create a single record optimized for discovery. The inclusion of Scopus content in the Summon unified index – and the advanced capability of "match and merge" – will aid in the discovery of full text content from other providers, as well as valuable Scopus citation-only results. Also, using Scopus cited-by counts as a factor in Summon relevancy ranking will ensure users surface the most scholarly and relevant content in their results.
"This agreement delivers a significant benefit to libraries that use the Summon discovery service and subscribe to Scopus content," said Cameron Ross, Head of Product Management for Scopus at Elsevier, "Expanding the discoverability of Scopus content for researchers globally is one of our most important goals and we are confident a broader audience will now have access to our citation data."
Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, with smart tools that track, analyze and visualize research. Containing more than 47 million records and 19,500 titles from 5,000 international publishers, Scopus offers scholars a comprehensive resource to support their research needs in the scientific, technical, medical, and social sciences fields, as well as in the arts and humanities.
"This latest agreement with Elsevier for inclusion of Scopus content and citation counts within the Summon service marks another step forward in providing our customers with a user experience that optimizes discovery of the full breadth of their collections," said John Law, vice president discovery services, Serials Solutions. "We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Elsevier to promote simple, easy and fast discovery of scholarly content."
The Summon Service
Used by more than 450 libraries in more than 40 countries, the Summon service is the first and only discovery service based on a unified index of content, leveraging its unique "match and merge" technology to combine rich metadata and full text from multiple sources to ultimately make items more discoverable. In just three years, the Summon unified index has grown from 200 million items to more than one billion items – with the vast majority of article and book content full-text searchable.
