LOS ANGELES, March 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 6-7, 2017, Sequencing.com will host the world's first Hack the Genome hackathon at Microsoft's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. This exciting two-day competition will focus on developing health and wellness apps that provide a unique, personalized user experience.
Hack the Genome is the first hackathon for personal genomics and the response has been tremendous. The world's largest companies in the genomics, tech and health industries are sending teams to compete as have early-stage companies, start-ups and independent app developers. Developers interested in registering and those interested in learning more can visit the Hack the Genome registration page.
Competitors at the hackathon will use Sequencing.com's Real-Time Personalization® (+RTP) API to add personalization to their apps. Apps powered by the +RTP API can perceive the uniqueness of each user because the API allows any app to connect to and understand information obtained from the user's genes.
There is no requirement for hackthon participants to know anything about genomics as the +RTP API makes genetic-based information incredibly easy to work with and understand. All a participant needs to know is how to create web or mobile apps.
The hackathon is open to everyone who is enthusiastic about creating health and wellness apps that change lives and, in turn, change the world. Users can register as individuals or as part of a team. Each team will create an app for iOS, Android, Windows Mobile or the web utilizing the power of Microsoft Azure and Sequencing.com's +RTP API.
The first day of Hack the Genome will feature presentations by Sequencing.com on the +RTP API as well as brief introductory sessions from the Microsoft Genomics and Microsoft partner teams. The hackathon participants will then spend the next 24 hours developing apps in the health and wellness category that use the +RTP API.
As space is limited, developers interested in competing are encouraged to register today at https://sequencing.com/hack-the-genome/health-and-wellness
Sequencing.com Technologies will usher in the Genomic Revolution
"Within the next 8 years, we expect between 100 million and 2 billion human genomes will be sequenced including every newborn baby being sequenced at birth," stated Dr. Brandon Colby, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Sequencing.com. "This will generate more than a petabyte of new data every day and the world will soon be inundated with hundreds of exabytes of genetic data."
Sequencing.com has been preparing for this inevitability by creating solutions that unlock the true value of genetic data. This hackathon focuses on one of these unique solutions, the Real-Time Personalization® (+RTP) API, which enables genetic data to be used daily to personalize and improve lives.
I Don't Know Anything About Genetics – Can I Participate in this Hackathon?
Yes, this hackathon is made for all app developers. App developers do not need to know anything about genomics or learn anything new.
The +RTP API is designed for the everyday app developer to be able to quickly integrate gene-based personalization into their apps on any platform. Learn more
