CABOT, Vt., Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Reward Volunteers 2.0, a free iPhone app and web widget that allows users to log volunteer efforts and earn prizes for themselves, and the organizations they serve, is announcing the September prize winners following the campaign's launch in late August. Reward Volunteers 2.0 is the second phase of the program; the first ran from February 14 though July 7, 2012.

"The first phase of Reward Volunteers was a big success for us," says Cabot Director of Marketing/Integrated Services, Jen Neary who worked with Chalo, Inc., a Vermont-based startup, to create the Reward Volunteers iPhone app and web widget. "In the program's five-month span, volunteers from 46 states logged more than 44,000 hours for more than 800 organizations, improving the lives of countless others and inspiring their friends on Facebook to do the same. We're already off to a great start with phase 2 – so far, volunteers have donated 3,795 hours at 168 organizations across the country. We hope to reach more volunteers and organizations each month from now until the grand prizes are awarded in January.
"The farm-family owners of Cabot Creamery Cooperative are proud of our cooperative roots," continues Jen. "For nearly 100 years, our farmers have been an integral part of the communities they serve, supporting the places where they live and do business. We're excited that Reward Volunteers 2.0 enables Cabot and its partners to promote the virtues of volunteerism—and to support the communities in which we live. By rewarding those who give selflessly to their communities, the program aims to encourage others to do the same."
Reward Volunteers uses Facebook Connect to enable participants to log their volunteer activity and share the volunteer experience with friends via Facebook, email, and the app itself. The more hours logged, the more 'likes' and 'comments' received, and emails opened, the more likely participants are to win prizes each month, now until January 27, 2013, the day the final grand prizes are awarded.
The top performers for the September have been selected, and will receive a variety of prizes from Reward Volunteers 2.0 co-sponsors.
"This is just awesome," says Gail Dener, a volunteer from Rebuilding Together Baltimore who won $500 for her altruistic efforts. "We work hard to help low-income homeowners to get through much needed renovations and repairs to their houses. I don't volunteer for the recognition, or even for a 'thank you,' but it still feels great when you receive it."
Other September winners include Reward Volunteers 2.0 users from across the nation who've won: Cabot Cheddar gift basket; National Cooperative Grocers Association $100 Gift Card; Farm Families Basket; King Arthur Flour $100 Gift Card; copies of Sending Milk and Hope for Women Greeting card packs; and a vacation to Liberty Hill Farm in Rochester, Vermont.
