Sensics Helps Zero Latency Power the World's First Multiplayer Free-Roam Virtual Reality Experience
New Japan location to open in partnership with Sega Live Creation
COLUMBIA, Md., June 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Sensics, the developer of groundbreaking virtual reality (VR) technologies and co-founder of Open-Source Virtual Reality (OSVR), announced today that it has helped Zero Latency develop a first-of-its-kind VR entertainment platform. Experiences developed on this platform use custom-built Sensics hardware, the OSVR software platform and Zero Latency's proprietary software, technology infrastructure and engineered wearables. Together, these components power an immersive multi-player experience inside Zero Latency's warehouse-scale game space.
Sega Live Creation, a subsidiary of SEGA-Sammy Holdings, Inc., recently announced a plan to bring this world-leading free-roam VR technology to Japan, with a July opening at the Tokyo Joypolis™ amusement park. Zero Latency will be installing a custom build for Sega Live Creation with brand new content, new tracking technology and enhanced VR backpacks and weapons. Visitors to the Joypolis park embark on a solo mission or as a team of up to six players. They will experience a multitude of dream-like worlds, initially fighting through zombie-filled buildings, with other Zero Latency titles to follow in which players solve gravity-defying puzzles or navigate space stations under evaluation.
To make this possible, Zero Latency knew it needed to go beyond consumer-grade devices. The company partnered with Sensics to help develop brand-new technology specific to its vision.
"Sensics is the only virtual reality device company taking out-of-home VR seriously," said Tim Ruse, CEO, Zero Latency. "We are at a tipping point. The VR wave will break in the out-of-home space first, and this partnership is just the start."
The technology used for public VR entertainment has unique requirements for durability and maintenance. Sensics worked with Zero Latency to leverage existing and new hardware and software components so that visitors can experience VR like never before. The result is a unique experience that will stand the test of time.
The OSVR software platform – designed by Sensics and co-founded by Razer –provides universal device support, optimized game-engine plugins and a wealth of high-performance VR software building blocks. Using OSVR makes it is easy for Zero Latency to create compelling cross-platform VR experiences.
"We are excited to compliment the unique experiences created by Zero Latency," said Christopher Mitchell, OSVR Lead, Razer. "OSVR brings the flexibility to VR that allows Zero Latency to stay at the forefront of this new form of entertainment, through hardware interoperability and wide ranges of content."
"With Sensics and OSVR, Zero Latency can upgrade the consumer experience to constantly offer the best in public VR entertainment," said Yuval Boger, CEO of Sensics and co-founder of OSVR. "We are dedicated to advancing and democratizing VR and Zero Latency's unique gaming experience is an outstanding example of what is now possible."
