CEO Mike Phillips and Vice President of Energy Services Colin Gibbs will share insights from their breakthrough real-time home intelligence
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 10, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Sense CEO Mike Phillips and Vice President of Energy Services Colin Gibbs will speak at SummerCon 2022 on August 17 in Philadelphia. The conference focuses on how to successfully plan and deploy demand flexibility and demand response programs – a topic that is being transformed by advances in real-time energy insights for consumers.
On Wednesday, August 17, Sense CEO Mike Phillips will join AESP CEO Jen Szaro at the opening plenary, "Empowering demand flexibility to enable a more resilient and participatory energy ecosystem." Attendees will learn how the Biden Administration is facilitating new pathways for integrating demand flexible loads and DERs into an overarching grid resilience strategy. Mike will discuss how consumer-friendly technology can deliver far more effective demand flexibility, with benefits to both the grid and end-users while helping to achieve critical climate justice and decarbonization goals.
Cisco DeVries, the CEO at OhmConnect, will join Mike on the panel. The two companies partnered in a joint pilot program during which Sense users who actively participated in the OhmHours reward program reduced their energy usage 313w per OhmHour on average, lowering their home energy usage by 18% and increasing their average savings by 160% over the typical OhmConnect customer.
Following the plenary session, Sense Vice President of Energy Services Colin Gibbs joins Session 1: Drive behavior and enable demand flexibility using real-time grid edge intelligence. Colin will demonstrate the Sense app and discuss how load shifting programs can get dramatically better results when customers know how much energy they're using at a certain time, and which appliances and devices in the home are using that energy.
Colin will be joined on the panel by Steve Kenney, Landis+Gyr's director of EV solutions. Sense has partnered with Landis+Gyr to make the consumer-friendly Sense app available on the Revelo(R) meter. The combination of high resolution waveform data from Revelo and Sense's deep experience in detailed, real-time energy engagement for consumers is an enormous step forward in the energy transition. Not only does this help consumers to lower their bills, it's also an important part of reducing climate impacts. National Grid will begin to deploy Revelo meters in 2023 to 1.7 million New York residential customers.
Smart meters play an important role in energy efficiency and demand flexibility programs by integrating real-time energy intelligence at the grid edge. As utilities upgrade their metering to bring it into the 21st century, consumers can use the Sense app to manage their energy use and collaborate with their utility to manage demand and grid capacity. This approach translates into tangible savings for consumers, and Sense studies have shown that consumers want to engage in this way and feel better about their utility when they do. By embracing customer preferences, utilities can multiply their gains from energy savings and achieve greater demand flexibility.
