Senior Chinese Officials to Visit Bunker Hill Community College
BOSTON, June 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fifty senior Chinese civil servants will visit Bunker Hill Community College Thursday, June 16, 2011, as part of a two-month leadership and management program at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government. "The officials wanted to visit a college where students can receive an affordable education that will enable them to find better jobs or transfer to four-year institutions," said Vilma M. Tafawa, Executive Director of the International Center at Bunker Hill Community College. "This is the third visit to the College by a delegation from China."
Dr. James F. Canniff, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Services, will welcome the group and present both an overview of community colleges in the United States, and specific information on Bunker Hill Community College. Vilma Tafawa, Executive Director of the College's International Center, will speak to the Chinese visitors about the work of the Center and the international student population at BHCC. Les Warren, Executive Director of Workforce Development at BHCC, will provide examples of some of the services the College offers to local businesses, such as customized corporate training and classes aimed at improving employees' workplace skills.
Established in 2001, the Harvard China's Leaders in Development program brings together Chinese civil servants at the vice minister, director general and deputy director general level for an intensive two-month annual training program in China and the United States. The program is a partnership with the Kennedy School, Tsinghua University, and the China Development Research Foundation. The curriculum focuses on leadership and management of public services in areas such as urban development, sustainability, crisis management and social policy.
