Senator Tom Harkin Awarded the NASCSP Appreciation Award
For his lifelong dedication and support of the Community Services Block Grant and Weatherization Assistance Program
WASHINGTON, March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Senator Tom Harkin, (D-Iowa) was presented the appreciation award for his lifelong dedication and support of the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) and the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). Senator Harkin's efforts have supported the CSBG and WAP missions of creating economic and energy security for vulnerable Americans. The National Association for State Community Services Programs (NASCSP) presented the award to Senator Harkin on Thursday.

Senator Harkin grew up in Cumming, Iowa, where he still lives in his childhood home. He came to Washington after serving in the Navy as a jet pilot. Sen. Harkin has been an advocate for the poor and the disabled by dedicating his life to community service programs, education and health initiatives, volunteerism, and advocacy for those suffering from disabilities through the American Disabilities Act (ADA). Sen. Harkin is the Chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. He is also Chair of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, and Chair of Senate Appropriation Subcommittee for energy and water development.
