Select Specialty Hospital at Columbus's Victorian Village Campus Partners with Critical Care Physician Groups

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Jan. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Select Specialty Hospital at Columbus's Victorian Village Campus (SSH) announced today that it has expanded its coverage by partnering with physician groups to offer critical care coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  "We have seen an increase in the medical complexity of our patients," explained Victoria Ruff, M.D., Medical Director at SSH. "In the past when some of these patients may have experienced complications requiring critical care physician involvement, they would have been transferred back to an ICU. Now we can care for them right here with expert critical care physician oversight and up to a one-to-one patient-to-nurse ratio."

To enhance its critical care coverage, the hospital has entered into a relationship with Riverside Pulmonary Associates and Riverside Critical Care Physicians. SSH Interim CEO Coleen Zimmerman stated, "We already have a 22-bed High Observation Unit here. However, through the new agreement, we will now have 24-hour coverage to fully support this unit from a critical care physician perspective. Our patients are very sick and many are on ventilators. The ability to keep them at one location throughout their recovery is very beneficial – and not just for the patient, but for their families who often stay for untold hours at their bedside."

SSH is a 152-bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) that cares for patients who are critically ill and suffer from medically complex conditions such as infectious disease, acute renal failure, congestive heart failure, chronic lung disease or require a ventilator.
