On display at CES 2025, Xafari and Xyber electric bikes make cycling more accessible with cutting-edge innovation, performance, styling and intelligent technology.
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- CES 2025,Segway, the global leader in micromobility, today launches its first two highly anticipated electric bikes (e-bikes). The Segway Xyber and Xafari are now available for pre-order at independent dealers nationwide and at store.segway.com with expected February delivery. Online orders will ship to a local dealer of the customer's choice.
Segway's first two e-bikes aim to redefine the segment and make the experience of riding a bike not only easier, but more fun, safe, convenient and accessible for more people by combining cutting-edge technology with class-leading features, benefits and performance.
"The best technology allows people to engage with the world more seamlessly. With the official launch of the Xyber and Xafari, we are using technology to redefine the electric bike experience," said Nick Howe, Segway's head of e-bike. "You don't have to consider yourself a cyclist to feel the freedom and joy of two wheels. And with features like our Intelligent Ride System, we're empowering both new riders and dyed-in-the-wool cyclists to simply 'ride better.'"
SEGWAY XYBER Defying convention and categorization, the Segway Xyber is an icon in the making that represents electrified exploration with attitude. More than an e-bike, the Xyber is a true mid-range, light-electric-vehicle (LEV) capable of getting you to your destination in style—and fast. Twist the throttle in Race Mode and go from 0 to 20 miles per hour in just 2.7 seconds thanks to Segway's torquey, 175Nm, 6,000-Watt, direct-drive motor. The Xyber can also go up to 112 miles between charging in its 2,880Wh dual-battery configuration. But in spite of its futuristic, moto-inspired aesthetic and cast-aluminum, double-cradle frame, there are actual pedals and 12 different levels of pedal-assist in addition to three modes (Eco, Sport and Race) of throttle-only operation.
Coil-sprung, hydraulically damped front and rear suspension provide comfort and control with a moto-style, inverted dual-crown fork up front and classic swing-arm design in the rear featuring 110 millimeters and 100 millimeters of travel respectively. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes (4-piston front, 2-piston rear) throw out the anchor when needed. It's all connected to the ground by massive, multi-surface 20 x 5.0" tires with flat-resistant inserts.
The Xyber is an unclassified e-bike designed for maximum performance and is not intended for use on-road or where prohibited. A second version of the Xyber fully conforming to Class 2 e-bike requirements to comply with federal, state and local regulations is expected late Spring/early Summer, 2025.
SEGWAY XAFARI Ready for endless fun and exploration, the Segway Xafari is an e-bike for everyone yet far from ordinary. A sleek, modern take on a classic step-through frame, this all-terrain electric cruiser is packed with all the smart tech of the Segway Intelligent Ride System and other thoughtful innovations to make it easy to get along with for riders of all ages and skill levels.
Its class-leading range of up to 88 miles means riders can focus on enjoying the journey instead of worrying about plugging in thanks to an efficient 936Wh battery and smart battery management system. The battery is also removable for easy indoor charging. When the going gets tough, adaptive power boost gets going to make sure you hardly notice.
Comfort is the name of the game with upright geometry and bump-smoothing suspension (80-millimeter front, 70-millimeter rear), with adjustable preload, compression damping and lock-out on the fork the help dial in the ride for different conditions. 26 x 3.0-inch all-terrain tires offer the optimal blend of efficiency and grip so the adventure doesn't have to end when the pavement does.
An adjustable-height seat with quick-release as well adjustable stem, handlebar and display make it easy to find the perfect fit for riders from 5' 1" to 6'2". Charge while you ride with an integrated 20W USB type A/C port, and mount your phone to the bar with an included easy-clamp phone holder (not that you'll need it with the integrated smart display putting navigation, speed, range, music and more at your fingertips). A rear-mounted rack and in-frame hardshell and softshell bags are included for extra on-the-go storage.
While the Xyber and Xafari are two remarkably different e-bikes, they both share Segway's Intelligent Ride System, an integrated suite of smart tech and features, offering incredible innovation and value.
SEGWAY INTELLIGENT RIDE SYSTEM AirLock wireless proximity security automatically engages mechanical locks and shuts out system access to unauthorized users when you walk away (and unlocks when you return). Should someone mess with your ride, an alarm will sound and incrementally increase in volume until deactivated while sending a real-time alert to your phone. It can also be engaged/disengaged via the mobile app or a passcode on the display.
Apple Find My and Segway GPS dual-component tracking with high-frequency location refresh allow you to know where your bike is at all times.
Segway IOT (internet of things) works with GPS to allow remote monitoring, control through the app and over the air (OTA) updates. Maintenance updates and prompts so you never miss a service interval. Bike/user cloud binding and bike/battery cloud binding thwarts against unauthorized use of vehicle or battery removal.
Adaptive pedal assist technology automatically adjusts the level of power output based on slope angle, terrain and the rider's own effort thanks to an advanced gradient algorithm, internal gyroscope and cadence sensor (Xyber) / torque sensor (Xafari).
A multi-color, high-resolution, 2.4-inch smart TFT display automatically adjusts brightness for maximum visibility and features navigation, real-time ride metrics and can connect to and control music on the rider's phone as well as hold or reject calls.
An intuitive bar-mounted scroll wheel controls 12 different speed and assistance levels and changes screens on the display.
Segway's intelligent lighting system features automatic headlights with high/low beams as well as daytime running lights and tail-lights.
Real-time health and fitness data syncing connects the bike to Apple and Android mobile health apps and Segway Mobility app.
"The world of mobility is changing and we continue to lead the way," said Howe.
Xyber ($2,999.99 MSRP) and Xafari ($2,399.99 MSRP) pre-orders are now open at store.segway.com and through select dealers.
