Seeds of Change® Awards $175,000 in Share the Good Grants to Help Community Gardens and Farms Grow

LOS ANGELES, June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Seeds of Change®, maker of organically grown seeds and nutritious organic foods, is proud to announce this year's 16 Share the Good grant recipients. The Salinas Education Center Garden in Salinas, Calif. will receive a $25,000 grant while 15 additional organizations will receive $10,000 grants to support new or existing community based gardening and sustainable farming programs.

Share the Good is funded by the Seeds of Change "1% Fund," the company's commitment to donate one percent of net sales to community-based nutrition, gardening and farming programs. The 16 organizations were selected from a pool of more than 700 applicants that applied through the company's Facebook page. The grant program, which is in its second year, has distributed nearly $300,000 to enhance the environmental, economic and social well-being of gardens, farms, farmers and communities nationwide.

"It was inspiring, yet again, to see the incredible work being done to promote the seed-to-plate story and we applaud all of our applicants on what they're working to achieve," said Tim Snyder for Seeds of Change. "These types of organizations are sometimes our children's first introduction to nutrition, which is why we want to support as many of them as we can through Share the Good."

The 15 recipients of the $10,000 grants are: Amanda Arnold Elementary School (Manhattan, KS), Arleth Elementary School Garden (Parlin, NJ), Bishop Peak/Teach School Garden (San Luis Obispo, CA), Branch Elementary Garden of Learning (Edwards, CA), Cali Calmecac Language Academy (Windsor, CA), Chamblee Middle School Outdoor Learning Garden (Chamblee, GA), Cypress High School Friendship Garden (Cypress, CA), Environmental Charter Schools' Learning Garden (Los Angeles, CA), From Seed to Science to Spoon: Willard Gardening and Cooking Program (Berkeley, CA), Global Gardens (Tulsa, OK), Mohawk Local Schools Greenhouse (Sycamore, OH), MS 331 School Garden (Bronx, NY), NYC iSchool Green Roof (New York, NY), School as a Garden (Encinitas, CA) and South Winneshiek FFA (Calmar, IA).
