Securus Analysis Indicates That 100% of Facilities Experience Increase in Total Visitations with Video Visitation Installed
Video Visitation Results in Increased Communications from Inmates to Friends/Family = Good for Reduced Recidivism
Technology Advancements Allow More, Less Expensive, and Richer Inmate Communications
DALLAS, March 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, a leading provider of civil and criminal justice technology solutions for public safety, investigation, corrections and monitoring, announced today multiple Securus Video Visitation (SVV) operating metrics that indicate that the video technology advancements allow more calling, less expensive calling, and richer inmate and friends/family visit experiences.
Securus Technologies today released key operating metrics associated with deployment of its video visitation product set.
Operating metrics are:
- SVV deployed in 180 facilities;
- 240,000 video visits in 2016;
- 336,000 estimated video visits in 2017;
- +6,000 full-time video visitation dedicated terminals installed in facilities;
- 40% increase in total visits pre and post video visitation installation;
- 78% of remote video visitation sessions are conducted via a mobile device used by the friend/family member;
- 63% of facilities DID NOT eliminate or restrict face-to-face visits;
- Average price per video session reduced by 75% since 2012, i.e., 75% reduction over five (5) years.
"These statistics show a quality product with double digit growth, with hundreds of thousands of uses per year, a product that benefits both inmates and friends/family members, a product that will reduce recidivism, and a product that has seen a 75% reduction in price – and that product is video visitation," said Richard A. ("Rick") Smith, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Securus Technologies.
"There is no comparison in the quality of a family interaction, especially seeing a father in prison watching his kids open their gifts on Christmas morning. You can't share those feelings with an audio call. This is our product, our development effort, our reduced pricing, our website that directs customers how to establish video sessions, our work with law enforcement and corrections to be sure that we have the appropriate security features – all Securus born and raised."
"We are on the cusp of providing so much more to inmates and society," said Smith. "More education, more job opportunities, more and better audio, text, and video communications, more media, more books, more tablets, more movies, more training and all at lower rates. These remind me of the heady days at the start of the mobile computer decade and the wireless decade, almost unlimited ability to improve and expand what we can do for all of society," concluded Smith.
"Stay tuned."
