DALLAS, July 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Securus Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of inmate communications services, today announced it has surpassed more than 100 installations of Automated Information Services (AIS™) in its partnership with Telerus. AIS is a cloud-based voice response platform specifically designed to improve operating efficiencies for local, county, and state correctional facilities by automating the process of delivering inmate information in near real-time.

Traditionally, incoming phone calls from friends and family members of inmates are answered by a "live" person. With an average of 14.5 inbound calls to a correctional facility per inmate per month, managing this task can become extremely burdensome. Not only does AIS automatically provide near real-time inmate information such as charges, bond amounts/ types, and court dates—but it also gives friends and family members the ability to create and fund phone and commissary accounts.
By implementing AIS, correctional facilities can immediately recognize significant savings, mitigate constituent and inmate complaints, and allow officers to focus on safety and security. In total, AIS installations create operational savings for subscribing facilities of nearly five million dollars per year.
"AIS allows facilities to answer critical constituent questions faster, while also allowing inmates to self-service questions they routinely ask correctional staff," said Russell Roberts, Vice President of Marketing & Strategy for Securus Technologies. "The proof is the installations. No other competitor comes close. Our partnership with Telerus supports our ability to provide innovative and efficiency driven solutions with our customers in mind."
"Telerus is proud of its partnership with Securus and the numerous facility success stories attributable to our association. Five years ago, the complexity and expense of IVR technology made it impractical for county jails," said Ted Radey, Chief Executive Officer for Telerus. "Thanks to Securus' industry leadership, we now serve over one hundred facilities and expect to process more than ten million calls in 2012 alone. The associated savings is staggering and we believe this is just the beginning."
