Secure64 Releases New Version of DNS Caching Software
First Commercial Product to Support DNS64 for Service Providers Planning IPv6 Transitions
DENVER, Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Secure64 Software Corporation today announced the latest release of its popular caching software appliance -- Secure64 DNS Cache v2.5 -- the most secure caching name server software available. This new version provides support for DNS64, an emerging standard that provides service providers a simple way to transition to IPv6 networks. Secure64 DNS Cache is the first carrier-grade product to offer support for DNS64.
"Service provider revenue growth is driven by the ability to offer services to more and more consumer devices," said Steve Goodbarn, CEO of Secure64. "Because IPv4 addresses are exhausted, service providers are embracing IPv6 in order to support new 4G smart phones, tablets and other IP-enabled devices. This is forcing organizations to make a difficult decision about the network architecture they will use to support both IPv4 and IPv6 – a decision that can have disastrous, long-term consequences if the wrong decision is made. The emerging DNS64 standard enables the transition to IPv6 while eliminating the costs and risks of other approaches. We are pleased to offer the first DNS caching product that supports DNS64."
Many service providers are choosing to set up a pure IPv6 network between new end devices and the facility where the DNS server is located. DNS64 is a new protocol that allows the end user device to communicate only over IPv6, while still being able to access IPv4-only content on the Internet.
In addition to its support of DNS64, Secure64 DNS Cache now offers the following capabilities on top of its already IPv6 Forum Gold certified product:
- Disable AAAA queries that come over IPv4 transport. This technique eases the transition to IPv6 for service providers choosing to implement dual stack architectures on their network composed of both IPv4 and IPv6. Certain large content providers such as Google and Yahoo are more willing to provide access to their content over IPv6 to service providers that have implemented this feature. Those that do not implement it risk providing a lower-quality experience to their users. By implementing this feature, service providers can ensure a high-quality experience for all of their users, regardless of whether they are using IPv4 or IPv6.
- Refresh expiring 'cached' data to decrease latency on queries.
- Non-stop restarts to help eliminate downtime when the server must be restarted. This feature allows service providers to more easily achieve five nines of availability.
- Views – a feature that allows service providers to return different answers to different clients without having to run multiple servers.
Secure64 DNS Cache was first released in December of 2009. Since that time, the product has been selected for use by several tier one service providers. Secure64 DNS Cache is part of a suite of fully secure DNS products for caching, signing and authoritative use. Each product works to make the DNS highly available due to the company's core technology, which resists high volume network attacks while maintaining 100% performance and availability. Secure64's product suite is standards-based, so it fits into the existing DNS architecture without locking a company into a proprietary architecture. The company uses a software appliance model that provides automatic updates to eliminate time-consuming and expensive hardening and patching.
