Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis to lead live May 24 webcast of roundtable discussion on important role of job clubs in getting Americans back to work
WASHINGTON, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis and the U.S. Department of Labor's Center for Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships will hold a live webcast on Tuesday, May 24, to launch the Partnerships Community of Practice – an online meeting spot to connect job clubs nationwide. At the site, individuals will be able to share best practices, tools and resources, as well as facilitate partnerships between their clubs and One-Stop Career Centers funded by the department through the workforce investment system.
The webcast will be a roundtable discussion led by Secretary Solis of club leaders from around the country. Among participants will be Diana Miller of Munroe Falls, Ohio, a leader in the career industry who founded the Stow Community Job Club. Although meetings are hosted by the Stow Community United Church of Christ twice a month, the free job club is non-sectarian and open to everyone looking for work.
Job Clubs typically are based at houses of worship and other religious institutions, community organizations, and, more recently, online through Facebook and other social media. They offer an opportunity for unemployed individuals to share job search techniques and professional networks, learn about careers and programs, and provide one another peer support.
The Labor Department's Partnerships Community of Practice is available 24/7 at https://partnerships.workforce3one.org. However, the webcast is a live event.
