Secretary Goldstein Visits Polartec, LLC in Lawrence
LAWRENCE, Mass., July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP) has awarded $104,940 to Polartec, LLC to support a two-year program with Northern Essex Community College to provide training for English for Speakers of Other Languages students (ESOL).
Secretary Goldstein, along with leaders from Commonwealth Corp, Northern Essex Community College, and UniteHere representatives, will visit Polartec's headquarters in Lawrence today to tour their state of the art manufacturing facility, and meet with the machine operators, material handlers and inspectors participating in the program.
This grant will support over 1,200 program hours of training for Polartec employees, aiming to build the employee's English language and math skills. Its end goal is to improve oral and written communication skills in English along with basic math skills. The training classes are offered to accommodate workers on all four of their shift assignments at their Lawrence manufacturing facility.
