SecondMuse Welcomes Greg Spielberg as Director of Strategy, Cities
NEW YORK, July 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SecondMuse, the global innovation agency with clients like NASA, Nike, World Bank Group and New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), announced today that they are hiring Greg Spielberg as Director of Strategy, Cities. Spielberg previously served as founder of NYC-based Imagination in Space, a storytelling agency and a close SecondMuse collaborator. He will continue to help spearhead SecondMuse's work on FutureworksNYC, part of NYCEDC's portfolio of advanced manufacturing projects.
"Over the last decade SecondMuse has helped a couple hundred businesses go to market through our community-centric approach to incubation. We have had the opportunity to partner and co-create with incredible organizations and are excited to grow our world-class team," says SecondMuse partner Todd Khozein. "Cities, for us, represent a unique and particularly powerful platform within which to help grow early and mid-stage businesses because of the strength of community ties. Being a part of NYC's manufacturing renaissance has been as inspiring as it has been validating of our approach, especially as we build community-sourced incubators in other cities around the world."
Spielberg joins the rapidly growing SecondMuse team as they expanded their portfolio of city-based incubators. Known for designing and implementing projects to tackle the world's complex social and environmental problems, SecondMuse collaborates with a variety of partners, including Nike, Inc., NASA, Intel, USAID, the World Bank Group, and NYCEDC.
"I've had the opportunity to collaborate with hundreds of brands, organizations and entrepreneurs over the past six years. SecondMuse is peerless in their understanding that economic and innovation development require the ongoing cultivation of diverse, powerful local ecosystems. I'm excited to join the team and help an already-global company deepen engagement in New York City and beyond," said Spielberg.
Over the past three years, Spielberg has partnered with SecondMuse initially to develop a tour of making and manufacturing in New York as part of New York's Next Top Makers. As the partnership with SecondMuse deepened, Spielberg took the lead on developing the community-storytelling approach to Next Top Makers, now known as Futureworks Incubator, and collaborated to develop Futureworks Shops to open up access to prototyping and fabrication equipment throughout NYC.
"Greg has an incredible ability to capture stories and get to the root of what brings people together. He has expanded the quality of our work and has deepened our understanding of how to build community-sourced programming in a fun, thoughtful way," said Katey Metzroth, Director of Cities at SecondMuse.
Spielberg brings 15 years of experience in journalism, creative retail and community-based economic development to SecondMuse. He started his career in the Rocky Mountains as a copy editor and reporter at the Vail Daily. After cutting his teeth as a journalist for Bloomberg, Businessweek, Harvard's Nieman Lab and Amsterdam-based The Intelligent Optimist magazine, Spielberg helped spark the city's pop up retail ecosystem with Openhouse Gallery. As managing director, he drove 30 percent year-over-year revenue growth, expanded the company's real estate footprint and built creative retail experiences covered by the Associated Press, Mashable, New York Times, NPR, VentureBeat, Wall Street Journal and WWD.
In 2013, he founded Imagination in Space to advance new economic ecosystems and community-based storytelling through deep collaboration. Working in New York, Shanghai and London, Imagination in Space worked with brands like Adidas, Bank of America, New Balance, Techstars Internet of Things, We Are Pop Up and WPP's Brand Union.
