ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- For the fifth year in a row, Second Harvest Heartland is teaming with Bremer Bank to offer parents and their children an opportunity to volunteer together on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a national day of community service in honor of Dr. King. "Bring Your Child to Serve Day" allows Second Harvest Heartland to engage directly with young people to generate awareness around the issue of hunger, promote the value of community service and, ultimately, increase youth volunteerism.
Last year, more than 480 volunteers, their families and community members rolled up their sleeves and packed, sorted and labeled food during the day-long event to support the one in 10 individuals in need of hunger relief in our community.
"Minnesotans are known for their volunteerism, and that starts with families coming together to give back, said Rob Zeaske, CEO, Second Harvest Heartland. "We're optimistic 'Bring Your Child to Serve Day,' will provide that opportunity for young people to adopt a life-long passion for supporting hunger relief in our community."
"Bring Your Child to Serve Day" is one of numerous events Bremer Bank sponsors each year in collaboration with Second Harvest Heartland to support hunger relief in the community.
Bremer employees and their children will also be among those volunteering at this event.
Where: Second Harvest Heartland West, located at 6325 Sandburg Rd. in Golden Valley, and Second Harvest Heartland East, located at 1140 Gervais Ave. in Maplewood.
When: Monday, Jan. 16, 2017 from 9am – 8pm.
Note: Media interested in securing photos or videos and/or speaking with a Second Harvest Heartland representative during the event are encouraged to visit Second Harvest Heartland in Golden Valley between 9-11 a.m.
