Jointly organized with China's Trade Development Bureau, the country's trade promotion arm under the Ministry of Commerce, the shows cover baby & children's products, electronics, fashion accessories, garments & textiles, gifts & premiums and home products. The events also include a selection of products from India manufacturers at the co-located India Sourcing Fair.
"China's trade value with Latin America rose 31.5 percent in 2011 to US$241.5 billion. Only the US exceeds China in the level of trade with Latin America," said Tommy Wong, President of Global Sources Exhibitions. "According to estimates, Latin America could surpass the EU as China's largest trading partner by as early as 2017.
"As the economies of Latin America prosper, they are craving more quality consumer goods at competitive prices. Growth in the events is a reflection of growing interest from buyers and from China suppliers who want to get a foothold in the Latin American market."
Officially opening the events were:
- Cesar Carasa, Mayor of the City of West Miami -- Ex officio
- Liu Cuilan, Deputy Director-General, Department of Commerce of Jiangxi Province, China
- A P Srivastava, Joint Director, Federation of Indian Export Organisations, India
- Tommy Wong, President, Global Sources Exhibitions, Global Sources
The Fairs in Miami are exclusively for importers, traders, and other volume buyers who purchase consumer products for resale to markets throughout North and Latin America. Last year, over 7,600 qualified buyers attended the event.
