SEATTLE, July 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seattle Storm today announced the LifeWise Community Assist program, an initiative which will raise funds to refurbish a local community basketball court. LifeWise Health Plan of Washington has pledged to donate $15 for every Storm assist of the 2015 regular season, working in tandem with the Storm and Seattle Parks and Recreation to identify the basketball courts in most need of repair. Beginning on July 30, fans and the local community can vote to decide which court among the nominees of Cowen Park, Magnuson Park and Sandel Park will be renovated.
"A neighborhood basketball court serves its community in so many ways," said Jim Havens, president and chief executive officer of LifeWise Health Plan of Washington. "It's more than a recreational area. It's a place that brings the community together. It's a great opportunity for us to continue being a health support partner for our community and we hope the renovated court will be a place that local families will be proud to call their own."
LifeWise is committed to supporting the development of healthy activities in its community. Following up on last year's partnership with the Storm that encouraged fans and the community to take their health by storm, LifeWise and the Storm desired to make a lasting impact on their community's health. They prioritized renovating a local basketball court and approached Seattle Parks & Recreation to partner in the project.
Fans can vote via links provided on the Storm's Twitter and Facebook accounts and will automatically be entered into a contest to receive autographed Seattle Storm memorabilia and a gift from LifeWise.
The Storm's season assist total will be tallied and LifeWise will announce the winning court to be refurbished during the Storm's Super Fan party on Sunday, August 23. To introduce the newly renovated court, the Storm and LifeWise will hold a youth basketball skills session for children from the community.
The Storm and LifeWise are committed to serving the Seattle community through donations like the Community Assist Program. LifeWise encourages all Seattle fans to get out there and Take Your Health by Storm!
