Sears was given top honors at the awards ceremony; recognizing their amazing work in communities through the program "Heroes at Home". The impactful program provides significant home rehabilitations and services to active soldiers and American veterans that are unable to repair their own homes, due to injuries resulting from service or income challenges. Since 2007 "Heroes at Home" has raised $10 million, and supported the extensive rehabilitation of 500 homes for our nation's deserving injured veterans.
"We are honored and pleased that Sears has been recognized with The Peter Glen Award due to their outstanding work with 'Heroes at Home,'" stated Gary A. Officer, President and CEO of Rebuilding Together. "This program focuses on helping low-income veterans address their long term housing needs. Through the unique rapport between Sears and Rebuilding Together, the American spirit and strength is renewed and inspired, and housing gives new hope to those who deserve it most."
The Peter Glen Award is named for legendary retail executive Peter Glen, a leader and familiar face in the retail industry. His honorary award is given annually to a company who gives back to their community or environment in a unique and impactful way. "Heroes at Home" works in communities nationwide with help through generous donations, spirited volunteers, and an undying commitment to improve lives at home by Sears and Rebuilding Together.
Sears' Tom Aiello, himself a disabled veteran who now leads many of the company's public relations efforts, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Aiello said the program "really enables Sears to show our gratitude" and that "Sears is going to be committed to these military families for years to come."
