Warehouse Grand Opening in Des Plaines Creates New Jobs for People with Disabilities
CHICAGO, Nov. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- For more than four decades, Search, Inc. has been at the forefront of providing unparalleled services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Now, in its new 63,000 square foot Planet Access Company warehouse, Search, Inc. will continue to grow and flourish.

The Planet Access Company warehouse, a social enterprise of Search, Inc., ships hundreds of thousands of products every year. Along the way adults with disabilities ensure items are stored, packaged and shipped properly. Founded in 1997, in partnership with Toad&Co clothing company, Planet Access Company warehouse provides more than 13,000 hours of paid work annually for adults with disabilities.

Search, Inc. is committed to integrating its Planet Access Company workforce so that it is comprised of a minimum of 20% of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in competitive, prevailing wage positions. In the state of Illinois, only 35% of people with disabilities are employed. For adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, that number drops to just 9%. With the opening of the new Planet Access Company warehouse, Search has recently hired two adults with disabilities, with additional new hires to follow in the months ahead. Planet Access Company warehouse employs 15 – 30 permanent and seasonal employees who receive, pick, pack and ship inventory and manage returns. During the grand opening and ribbon cutting November 18, employees will be giving tours of the warehouse.
