Seaport Hotel & Seaport World Trade Center Selects Enterasys OneFabric Architecture for Consistent, Reliable Guest Wireless Access
ANDOVER, Mass., Jan. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Enterasys Networks, a Siemens Enterprise Communications Company, and the Seaport Hotel & Seaport World Trade Center today announced that the Boston-based hotel and conference center has deployed Enterasys OneFabric Edge solutions to provide consistent and reliable Internet access to hotel and conference guests. The new Seaport network can be proactively managed by the property's IT staff using the innovative Enterasys project isaac social media interface, which reduces the time spent reacting to potential connectivity issues and provides hotel and conference guests with the highest level user experience.
Working with Enterasys Networks, the Seaport IT team has deployed a scalable, stable guest network solution that also provides the infrastructure required to integrate in-room guest entertainment systems and ultimately, a VoIP phone system. To accommodate the continually growing population of wireless devices connecting to the property's guest network, Seaport replaced both their wired and wireless guest networks with an Enterasys OneFabric Edge solution. The hotel deployed Enterasys Wireless, as well as several Enterasys switches (Enterasys S-Series, Enterasys B-Series) and Enterasys NetSight (formerly Network Management Suite) for central management.
"With an ever-increasing number of guests trying to access the Internet, we recognized that we needed a new network solution," said Michael Duffy, Director of Information Technology at the Seaport Hotel & Seaport World Trade Center. "With over 120 access points, we had no way to centrally manage the network, and wanted to avoid having our guests face potential connectivity issues. With Enterasys OneFabric, we now have a solution that ensures the wireless network delivers the superior performance guests expect to have when accessing application services."
Enterasys' isaac is the industry's first social media interface that allows users to interact with the network using familiar social media interfaces, such as Twitter, Facebook and SalesForce.com Chatter. "We are excited to be part of the isaac beta program and are using the solution to make necessary changes to our network," said Duffy. "We are constantly monitoring our network, including via social media, and see some exciting possibilities with the technology."
"Michael and his team at Seaport are truly breaking new ground in the hospitality industry," said Vala Afshar, Chief Customer Officer, Enterasys Networks. "They are a leading luxury property using this cutting edge technology to ensure the best possible wireless experience for their guests. In this way, IT can take a much more proactive approach to resolving any network issues before they affect the end user."
Seaport enlisted the help of Enterasys solutions provider, Single Digits, a leading global provider of High Speed Internet Access (HSIA) management and support solutions. Single Digits' hosted hospitality and conference services allows the Seaport IT staff to focus on optimizing the new network while hotel and conference guests are authenticated and supported 24x7. Single Digits also monitors network performance 24x7 from their NOC in Manchester NH. Through the Single Digits web portal Seaport IT gains full visibility into performance metrics, including bandwidth utilization at the application layer.
Located on the Boston waterfront, Seaport was the first Boston area hotel to offer complimentary wired guestroom Internet access, and later one of the first to offer free wireless connectivity. An award-winning venue for large conferences, the property hosts more than one million visitors each year. Providing guests with innovative technology solutions has long been an important brand differentiator for Seaport.
