Seahorse Bioscience Achieves Milestone in Instrument Shipments
600th XF Analyzer Shipped to Thomas Jefferson University
BILLERICA, Mass., Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Seahorse Bioscience, the world leader in instrumentation and assay kits for measuring cell metabolism, announced the shipment of the 600th instrument to the Thomas Jefferson University, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US.
Since 2007 more than 2,500 scientists in over 30 countries utilize the award-wining XF Extracellular Flux Analyzer in their research. The XF Analyzer and stress test kits are the industry Gold Standard and driving force behind the latest advances in cell metabolism research – enabling scientists to identify subtle changes in neuronal cell metabolism early in pathogenesis, before the development of observable neurodegeneration.
"We're interested in understanding the metabolic phenotype of neurons involved in the pathophysiology of the chronification of pain, but we lacked the tool to perform our desired studies," stated Nathan Fried, Ph.D. candidate of Dr. Michael Oshinsky at the Jefferson Headache Centre, Department of Neurology, at Thomas Jefferson University. "Adopting XF technology into our lab has allowed us to overcome these hurdles and provided us with fascinating data that will certainly change our basic understandings of migraine headaches."
"We initially designed the XF for pharmaceutical companies to measure cell metabolism, to enhance drug discovery efforts to fight obesity. Since the first installation, scientists from pharma, academia and biotechs have found that XF technology is useful far beyond our expectations. It is now apparent that a greater understanding of virtually every major disease is achievable with XF measurements," stated Steve Chomicz, Vice President of Sales, Support & Marketing at Seahorse Bioscience. "We hear more and more that reviewers from many of the leading scientific journals, such as Nature and Cell, are requiring the inclusion of XF data in papers before publishing."
