Seafarer Receives Two-Year Extension of DEP Permit
TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Seafarer Exploration Corp. (OTCQB:SFRX) ), a company focused on the archaeologically-sensitive exploration and recovery of historic shipwrecks announced the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has granted Seafarer a two-year extension to the environmental permit for the Juno Beach site to December 9, 2015. Seafarer wishes to thank the entire Southeast District Office for their prompt professional services and guidance.
Kyle Kennedy (Seafarer CEO) stated, "We are taking a more proactive role to ensure a seamless transition as our permits come up for renewal. We continue to see progress on the Juno Beach project. We have located some interesting artifacts which may further help to determine the time frame of this potentially sizable colonial era shipwreck. Each artifact helps articulate a piece of history and we hope to eventually answer a lot of additional questions about the site's past such as the name of the ship, how it wrecked, and what it was carrying, among many others."
Mr. Kennedy continued, "We are also in the process of completing an archaeological Research Design to be submitted to the Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research in order to eventually receive our third permit. The history and copious amount of recorded data our archaeologist have in their possession on this third site is very enlightening. Especially when combined with some of the historic artifacts already found and believed to be in the possession of the State of Florida, lends credence to the potential historic and archaeological significance of this site."
Mr. Kennedy finished by stating, "We are also continuing to explore and review data on other possible shipwreck sites around the Florida coastline to plan for sites 4 and 5. Although there have been a number of sites presented to us by third parties, we believe it is imperative to perform extensive background research before committing to a site. In determining these sites, we try to answer the following questions; what is the historic significance of the site, the name or names of the ships that wrecked, the cargo and other contents that were being transported, were there any previous salvage attempts, and a reasonable approximation of the location of the wreck or wrecks. These factors will be researched in depth by our archaeologists to help us select our potential sites and then the research will be given to the State of Florida."
