SAN DIEGO, Nov. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) joins the nation this Veterans Day in saluting U.S. military veterans for their service and is proud of its employees who have served in the Armed Forces. SDG&E is committed to hiring and retaining military veterans, veterans with disabilities and active military personnel. SDG&E also supports organizations that assist veterans and works with veteran-owned businesses in its supplier diversity program.

SDG&E's dedication to the military is woven into the fiber of the company, with approximately 400 SDG&E employees holding veteran status. SDG&E also supports veterans in its purchase of supplies and other contracts, and over the last five years spent more than $165 million with businesses owned by service-disabled veterans in an effort to promote jobs and economic activity for those who have served in uniform.
In 2014, SDG&E will have provided $500,000 in charitable giving to more than 75 non-profit organizations that support military and veteran families through job training, food assistance, housing, youth services, and other programs. SDG&E recently awarded grants to non-profits that include Workshops for Warriors, Operation Homefront, the Vets2Jets program at San Diego Miramar College, USO San Diego, Archi's Acres, Armed Services YMCA at Camp Pendleton and the National Veterans Transitional Service's REBOOT program, which specifically focus on helping veterans transition to high-paying jobs in the workforce.
