"With digital data entering every aspect of life, the demand that data be secure, reliable and readily available continues to grow," said Marty Czekalski, Interface Architecture Initiatives Manager, Seagate Technology and President, STA. "It is the role of the STA members and its board of directors to ensure that the power and reliability of SCSI technology is well-known and understood so that the entire enterprise-class storage ecosystem can reap the benefits of its use."
Czekalski reported that several SAS milestones occurred in 2013, including the final standardization of SAS-3 by T10 with volume deployment of 12Gb/s SAS technology. The first versions of the SCSI Express specifications, which include the SCSI over PCI (SOP) and PCI Express (PCIe) Queuing Interface (PQI) technical standards, were also finalized.
In addition, STA held two Plugfests in 2013 with record industry participation. During the events, companies focused on the latest 12Gb/s SAS specification and technology to ensure their solutions preserved existing storage investments. Interoperability for both forward and backward compatibility was demonstrated as well as managed cables and optical links.
"In 2014, we'll see a real ramp-up of 12Gb/s SAS products in production volume and additional traction for the SCSI Express specification," added Czekalski. "You'll also see STA represented at numerous industry events, speaking about and demonstrating why SCSI remains the mostly widely adopted storage standard interface technology."
In addition to Czekalski, returning officers to the STA Board of Directors include Greg McSorley of Amphenol, who serves as Vice President, and Dave Allen of PMC who was appointed as Treasurer mid-term due to job changes. Rick Kutcipal of LSI assumes the role of Secretary.
