EMERYVILLE, Calif., Dec. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- SCS Global Services (SCS), a global leader in third-party environmental sustainability certification, today announced that its SCS Indoor Advantage™, SCS Indoor Advantage Gold™ and FloorScore® certifications meet U.S. Green Building Council requirements under the new LEED v4 (version 4) Environmental Quality (EQ2) credit for low-emitting materials. "We are pleased that SCS is on the short list of certifiers that meet LEED v4 requirements for IAQ certification," said Stowe Beam, managing director of the Environmental Certification Services Division at SCS. "Good indoor air quality is essential to the health, safety and comfort of a building's inhabitants. SCS has supported manufacturers in achieving the low-emitting materials credit across the previous iterations of LEED, and we will maintain this effort for LEED v4 and beyond."
Beam also announced that, in addition to furniture and building products, SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification can now be earned for carpeting that meets its IAQ standards for low-emitting materials. Indoor Advantage Gold, along with FloorScore certification, also verifies compliance with established standards for low volatile organic compound (VOC) content in wet-applied products such as adhesives, paints, coatings, caulks and sealants. SCS verifications minimize the risk of VOC chemical hazards and off-gassing by interior building products, both of which may present health and safety issues for occupants.
Products certified by SCS meet the standards for good indoor air quality (IAQ) as specified by CDPH Standard Method v1.1-2010 (aka CA 01350) and ANSI/BIFMA M7.1 and X7.1.
"As LEED v4 attests, green building standards and certification will evolve as new materials and processes emerge," Beam said. "SCS will continue to step up to meet the changing needs of the building industry in the years ahead."
SCS Global Services has been providing global leadership in third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development for three decades.
