Jameson begins his new role Feb. 21.
"Mike is one of our industry's most inspirational and skilled leaders," said Mark G. Contreras, senior vice president/newspapers for The E.W. Scripps Company, which owns the Independent-Mail. "He has proven in a variety of settings to be able to lift institutions and employees to new levels of performance. We feel extremely fortunate to have him as part of Scripps."
Bruce Hartmann, vice president of sales for Scripps newspapers, said, "Mike is a highly experienced, inspirational leader who truly understands the importance of local news and information. We know he will dynamically strengthen the relationships with our readers and advertisers in Anderson and the surrounding communities."
Jameson began his newspaper career in 1979 as an advertising representative at the Gloucester (Massachusetts) Daily Times. He has held advertising and sales-related leadership roles at the Rockingham County (New Hampshire) Newspapers, Hartford Courant and Louisville Courier-Journal.
In 1993, Jameson joined Madison Newspapers where he eventually became the vice president and general manager. In 2000, he assumed the role of president for River Valley Newspaper Group and publisher of the La Crosse (Wisconsin) Tribune until moving to the Tucson Newspapers. Under his leadership, the River Valley Newspaper Group in La Crosse was recognized as "Enterprise of the Year" by Lee Enterprises in 2002.
He is a board and executive committee member of the Greater Tucson Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of the Greater Tucson United Way and Greater Metropolitan Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Additionally, Jameson is a member of the Council of Trustees for TREO (Tucson Regional Economic Opportunities) and a member of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council.
