Scott Tucker Recalls Daytona Success as 2012 Season Gets Underway
SEBRING, Fla., Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- While the 2012 NASCAR racing season kicks off with the Daytona 500, 2011 American Le Mans Series LMP2 Champion driver Scott Tucker is in Florida recalling his own "Daytona Dream." Tucker, who is testing at Sebring International Raceway in preparation for the 60th Annual 12 Hours of Sebring which will be held March 17, 2012, has fond Daytona memories from his podium finish in the 2010 Rolex 24 At Daytona.
"Daytona is a special place, there is no question about it," Tucker said. "I am very proud of our podium there in 2010. I know all of those drivers who had to wait out the rain for the Daytona 500 were anxious to get on the track because there is nothing like going into the Daytona record books."
Tucker's efforts to conquer Daytona International Speedway were chronicled in the motional picture release "Daytona Dream." The film was featured numerous film festivals and was broadcast by the Discovery Channel.
Tucker, a five-time national driving champion and native of Leawood, Kansas, was in Sebring in early February for testing where his Level 5 Motorsports team completed a total of 364 laps, more than 1,300 miles in their HPD prototypes, which also ran for the first time on Dunlop tires.
The test marked the worldwide debut of the new HPD ARX-03b, the newest Honda Performance Development racecar in the Level 5 stable. No. 055 car, which posted the quickest overall time on Wednesday, ended the two-day test on top in LMP2. Level 5's No. 95 HPD, running to 2011 specification, also proved its strength by recording the second best time in class.
The team returns to Sebring this week as the 2012 American Le Mans Series season is set to kick off with the 60th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida, where Tucker will be seeking his third straight victory in America's oldest endurance race. The American Le Mans Series season-opener, scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. ET start on March 17, will also serve as the first race for the new FIA World Endurance Championship. It will be broadcast March 18 on ABC and shown live on ESPN3 or ALMS.com.
