Scott & White Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center to be Named for Hill Country Visionaries Wayne and Eileen Hurd
Groundbreaking ceremony held signaling start of construction on "anchor" project
TEMPLE, Texas, Nov. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Scott & White Healthcare today broke ground on Phase 1 construction of the Wayne & Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center-Scott & White. A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the construction site, signaling the start of the clinic building which will serve as the anchor for the medical center campus. The clinic project is slated for completion during the first quarter of 2013.
"This is an important step toward development of an acute-care facility to serve the citizens of the Hill Country," said Robert W. Pryor, MD, president and CEO of Scott & White Healthcare. "The Scott & White model for building new hospitals begins with establishing successful physician practices, and this clinic will provide a home for the Scott & White physicians and other health care professionals that are already serving this area, as well as additional staff currently being recruited."
Wayne Hurd, who died September 26, was co-developer of Horseshoe Bay and he and Eileen have been early and ardent supporters for a Scott & White medical complex in the Hill Country.
"The Hurds have given tirelessly and generously of their resources on behalf of this project, and it is only fitting that it bear their name, in recognition of their invaluable contribution," said Nancy Birdwell, chief development officer for Scott & White Healthcare, and executive vice president and CEO for the Scott & White Foundation. "While we were saddened to lose Wayne before the project was completed, we take consolation in knowing Eileen will continue to work with us in fulfilling their fond vision for this region."
Scott & White partnered with the City of Marble Falls and Llano Memorial Health System in 2007 on plans to build a major medical center; at the time of the announcement the facility was to be named Lake of the Hills Regional Medical Center. The campus is strategically positioned near the water tower and sewer lines serviced by the City of Marble Falls.
Located near the intersection of U.S. 281 and TX 71, the Wayne & Eileen Hurd Regional Medical Center - Scott & White will eventually be comprised of the clinic, a surgical and diagnostic center and a 200,000 square-foot hospital facility with 72 medical/surgical beds and 12 medical/surgical ICU beds.
The campus is being designed by Jacobs Architects and Engineers. Scott & White Healthcare has named DPR Construction of Austin to spearhead building the clinic.
DPR has extensive experience in facilities development with Scott & White, including the recently-completed Children's Hospital Scott & White, which opened in Temple on October 4.
