SCORE Canton Named 2016 Chapter of the Year
Leadership Congratulated at U.S. Small Business Administration's National Small Business Week Kickoff
WASHINGTON, May 4, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Canton, Ohio chapter of SCORE, a national nonprofit dedicated to mentoring small business owners, was recognized as the 2016 Chapter of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration at the 2016 National Small Business Week Kickoff held at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. on May 1.
The Canton, Ohio SCORE chapter was chosen from among 300 SCORE chapters nationwide for its success in mentoring small business clients in effectively achieving their dreams.
This year, the nearly 40 volunteers who run the Canton, Ohio chapter of SCORE dedicated approximately 5,000 hours to mentoring their clients on all aspects of starting and running a thriving small business. In doing so, they enriched their community by helping to start 169 new businesses and create 324 new jobs.
"SCORE Canton's culture of continuous improvement and growth earned them the Chapter of the Year distinction," said Steve Records, Vice President of Field Operations at SCORE. "Canton is a perfect example of SCORE volunteers' exceptional ability to create meaningful, long-term relationships with small business clients."
Over the past three years, Canton has increased their number of client services by almost 2.5 times, totaling nearly 2,000 services. This year alone saw a 92% increase in the number of workshops offered, and a resulting 91% increase in workshop attendees.
"The impressive work done by SCORE Canton demonstrates the tremendous impact that SCORE volunteer mentors make in the lives of entrepreneurs in their local communities," said SCORE CEO Ken Yancey. "By helping small business owners to succeed, these mentors are changing lives, creating jobs and driving economic growth."
