Scoot Selects Pratt & Whitney AeroPower for 787 Auxiliary Power Unit Maintenance Support
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Pratt & Whitney AeroPower has signed a long-term comprehensive APS5000 Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) maintenance support agreement with Scoot Pte. Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, for its new fleet of 20 Boeing 787 series aircraft. The support agreement includes repair services and spares asset management. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
The agreement, which focuses on system health monitoring, and aircraft operational and dispatch reliability, marks Pratt & Whitney AeroPower's most comprehensive maintenance support program for its APS5000 APU. The agreement covers 10 B787-8 and 10 B787-9 of Scoot's new 787 aircraft fleet. The first delivery of the 787-9 aircraft is scheduled for November 2014.
"We are very pleased to enter into a long-term support agreement with Scoot and look forward to supporting their 787 fleet," said Eileen Drake, vice president and general manager, Pratt & Whitney AeroPower. "This program closely aligns with Scoot's emphasis on affordability without compromising safety, performance, and reliability. It also builds on our long-term APU support relationship already in place with Singapore Airlines."
The Pratt & Whitney APS5000 APU system is installed on all Boeing 787 Dreamliner airplanes and is the world's first commercial all-electric APU. Its low noise and emissions make it the most environmentally friendly APU on the market today. APUs provide secondary power for main engine starting, cabin air conditioning and electric power for aircraft while on the ground. APUs can also provide electric power during in-flight operation.
Scoot Pte. Ltd. is a Singapore-based long-haul budget airline. It currently operates flights between Singapore and Sydney, Gold Coast, Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qingdao, Nanjing, Seoul, Hong Kong and Perth.
