Scintera Networks Engages with Freescale for Low Power Small Cell RF Technology
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Scintera Networks, Inc. announces that it has engaged with Freescale Semiconductor® (NYSE: FSL), a leading provider of RF power solutions for wireless communications, to enable low power and cost-efficient solutions for the small cell base station market.
As part of the engagement, Freescale will design and optimize new small cell RF power amplifier devices and evaluation boards for operation with Scintera's RFPAL products. The engagement provides Freescale and their customers with preferred access to Scintera's RFPAL products.
As small cell deployments rise worldwide to help support exponential increases in worldwide IP traffic, system power requirements have grown dramatically stringent. Scintera's innovative RFPAL technology handles pre-distortion tasks with an analog solution, which consumes substantially less power than digital pre-distortion solutions. Due to the higher power efficiency, RFPAL enables small cell wireless infrastructure equipment to operate within extremely aggressive power envelopes, ultimately allowing networking equipment to operate at a fraction of the power of current generation systems.
"Network operators are demanding smaller and more power-efficient base stations in order to facilitate the deployment and maintenance of their heterogeneous network infrastructure," said Ritu Favre, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Freescale's RF Group. "Freescale's own market-leading small cell power amplifiers coupled with Scintera Networks' innovative linearization products will support and accelerate the development of cost-effective small cell solutions to meet those demands."
"Scintera Networks and Freescale share a common vision in addressing the small cell base station market," said Davin Lee, chief executive officer of Scintera. "The cooperative agreement represents an important endorsement of our company and our products. Scintera's family of RF PA linearizers (RFPAL) is ideally suited for small cells as evidenced by the increasing number of design wins and PA developments that are specifically optimized to operate with RFPAL. Working with Freescale, a recognized leader in the cellular PA market, will further accelerate this trend to the benefit of our joint customers, network operators and ultimately subscribers."
