LAS VEGAS and ATLANTA, March 13, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific Games Corporation (NASDAQ: SGMS) ("Scientific Games" or the "Company") congratulates longtime customer the Florida Lottery (the "Lottery") on breaking the U.S. record for single week sales of instant games. The week ending March 4, 2018 Floridians purchased $123,841,686 in "scratch-offs", generating more than $23 million in contributions to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund, benefiting students in Florida. More than 98.7 percent of the games sold were created by Scientific Games.
Currently ranked No. 4 worldwide for total instant game sales (La Fleur's Almanac), the Florida Lottery also experienced its best overall sales week of the fiscal year with $167,620,057 in total sales (instant and other games), with a total of approximately $40 million benefitting education in the state.
"We are thrilled to share that the U.S. lottery industry's latest record-breaking week in Florida was led by our new $30 100X The Cash game with more than $34,279,230 in retail sales," said Jim Poppell, Florida Lottery Secretary. "Our new game represented a remarkable 27.6 percent of the week's instant game sales. Floridians love the game, and last week they claimed more than $23.5 million in prizes playing it."
The new $30 100X The Cash also broke the Lottery's own record for individual instant game sales set last year by its $25 $10,000,000 World Class Cash game, which launched the same week the Lottery hit the U.S. weekly record for instant game sales in March 2017. Both games were designed and manufactured by Scientific Games.
One year ago, the Florida Lottery shattered the U.S. record with more than $105.2 million in weekly instant game sales the week ending March 5, 2017, which was topped by the California Lottery the last week of December 2017 with $112.1 million in weekly "scratcher" sales.
"Scientific Games congratulates the Florida Lottery and we are honored to celebrate breaking the U.S. record for weekly instant game sales with them," said John Schulz, Senior Vice President, Instant Products for Scientific Games. "We will continue our longtime collaboration with the Lottery to bring entertaining instant games to Floridians, along with our technology and services that help generate more contributions to the Educational Enhancement Trust Fund."
Instant games are an important part of the Florida Lottery's portfolio of games, comprising about 68 percent of its total sales last fiscal year. The Lottery participates in Scientific Games' Cooperative Services Program (CSP) which provides instant game design, programming, manufacturing, inside sales, marketing, warehousing, distribution and retail services. The Company serves more than 13,000 Florida Lottery retailers from its CSP facility in Orlando.
Scientific Games launched the world's first secure instant game in 1974. The Company provides games, technology and services to more than 150 lotteries around the globe, including nearly every North American lottery.
