HOUSTON, Dec. 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- SCIENTIFIC DRILLING INTERNATIONAL (SDI) announced the promotion of Chip Abrant to the position of Senior Vice President of Global Operations and Sales. In his new position, Chip will lead the Western and Eastern Hemisphere operations, and the sales and technical support teams. This unified approach between SDI's sales and operations will ensure Scientific Drilling maintains optimal profitability during the current market conditions, and is poised for strategic growth as it begins to recover.

Chip joined Scientific Drilling International in 2011 as the Manager of Technical Services focusing on expanding the scope and market penetration of their MagTraC MWD Ranging product line. He then held several positions including Director of Technical Services, Senior Vice President of Administration, and most recently as Senior Vice President – Drilling Products and Services.
He has over 32 years of extensive O&G experience, which includes both engineering and leadership roles spanning from the operator to service sector side of the industry. Prior to joining Scientific Drilling, Chip was a co-founder and the VP of Operations of a small E&P company - an early player in the Eagle Ford shale (South Texas). He also worked for Weatherford as the U.S. General Manager of Underbalanced Drilling & Testing, and was then promoted as the Global Business Unit Manager for Controlled Pressure Drilling & Testing, where he had P&L responsibility, generating approximately $400MM per year revenue for the respective business unit. Earlier in his career, Chip served in both technical and management capacity for several successful directional drilling companies, where he supported an active role throughout the entire commercialization process, and took innovative directional drilling technologies to market.
Chip is a member of major Oil & Gas organizations SPE, AADE and is a graduate of the Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Geological Engineering.
