Asthma Foundation Approves Standards for Dry Dusters and Allergen Reducer Sprays, Certifies New Cleaning Products
WASHINGTON, April 9, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) announced today that it has approved two new scientific laboratory standards and protocols for assessing certain types of household cleaning products. Over the past 10 years, AAFA's asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification Program has adopted more than 20 standards to test products including bedding, air filters, vacuums, flooring and more, to help families living with asthma and allergies find the most suitable household environmental products. A full list of standards and Certified products can be found at www.aafa.org/certified.
This year AAFA added two more categories to the list: "Dry Dusters" and "Allergen Reducer Sprays" with the Certification of select Swiffer and Febreze products. AAFA's Certification Mark is awarded only to those products that have been scientifically proven to meet the strict standards set by the program. Swiffer® Dry Dusters and Sweepers Unscented are the first dry duster products to meet AAFA's new standard to be Certified asthma & allergy friendly™. Febreze® Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer Unscented is the first allergen reducer spray to meet AAFA's new standard for certification, as well.
An estimated 60 million Americans suffer from asthma or allergies. That's why the asthma & allergy friendly™ Certification Program develops standards to put cleaning products such as sprays and dusters through laboratory testing to ensure they can effectively reduce allergens in the home. Certification Standards are developed by the physician-led global certification company, Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), peer-reviewed by a panel of medical and research experts and then adopted by AAFA for use in the Certification Program.
"Our program is a scientific program first and foremost," says Mike Tringale, Senior Vice President of External Affairs at AAFA. "Products tested by our Certification Program go through a rigorous review of chemicals, materials and constituents, as well an assessment of how effective they are at reducing allergens in real-time use," says Tringale. "We owe it to the families we serve to get the lab work done right."
