MADISON, Wis., Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- In a "blast-from-the-past" move, Schwinn, a brand of Dorel Industries, has released a limited 1,400 production run of its iconic Grey Ghost bicycle exclusively at Dick's Sporting Goods stores and online. The Grey Ghost is part of the Sting-Ray family of bicycles, which ran for one year in 1971. Schwinn fans both past and present will now be able to own a piece of the brand's storied history.
"The Schwinn Grey Ghosts embodies the joy of the ride and its classic design makes it one of the most recognizable bikes in our history," says Milissa Rick, Senior Director of Marketing at Schwinn. "We're thrilled to be able to share the nostalgia of this incredible bike with a new generation of riders, just in time for the holidays."
The limited edition Grey Ghost is a replica of the original from the Schwinn Sting-Ray Collection and was designed after the Southern California hot rod culture. They are fully functional bikes and a true collector's item. The bikes will feature a spring suspension fork, 16-inch front wheel and a 20-inch wheel with buffed rear slik tire – just like the original. The bike includes a striped banana seat, fenders and a coaster brake.
"The Grey Ghost is one of the rarest of the Schwinn Sting-Ray bikes. We wanted to give fans another opportunity to get one of their own, and maybe pass it on to their kids," says Josh Vick, Director of Schwinn Product Development. "It's not just the history that makes them stand out though – riding them is pure joy. It makes you feel like a kid again."
The limited edition Grey Ghost bicycles include an individualized certificate of authenticity with the specific unit number in the collection, a sticker on the bike with the same corresponding number and a collector color lithograph box.
The Grey Ghost retails for $399 and is available now on dicksportinggoods.com and in participating Dick's Sporting Goods stores.
