STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Jan. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- William Fowler, a leader in building effective, innovative and scalable technology-based programs for education, has joined the Board of Directors for Schoolwires, it was announced today.
Mr. Fowler has helped school systems, higher education, governments, and businesses achieve their goals for improving leadership and student achievement, streamlining operations and using 21st century technology to drive education success and economic development. He is a speaker, author and consultant for educational institutions and companies that serve the education market worldwide. Mr. Fowler joins four other board members who help guide Schoolwires to deliver strategic solutions that result in stronger school communities, more effective schools and greater student success.

Mr. Fowler has 20 years of experience in education as an educator, administrator and in leading industry teams in the education sector. He is a former Director of Cisco's Global Education Group where he developed strategies for higher education, education and commerce industries and educational institutions worldwide, and acted as Global Ambassador to education. Mr. Fowler also led the development of Cisco's IBSG Education consulting practice and the Cisco Networking Academy, furthering the use of the Internet to help change the way people learn.
Also during his time with Cisco, Mr. Fowler was Executive Director for the company's largest and most comprehensive education programs including:
- The Mexico 3.0 Education Initiative to help transform education in Mexican schools. He worked with the government to plan and implement 40 pilot schools in three states with teaching training, knowledge transfer and appropriate technology in a sustainable and scalable Simplified Employee Pension and Non-Governmental Organization funded model program.
- NYCiSchool, the most successful new school in NYC DOE with 95 percent passage of Regents exams in the first year.
- Twenty-first Century Schools Initiative, Cisco's $80 million program for rebuilding and transforming schools after Hurricane Katrina. The initiative is credited with improved test scores and improved teacher retention and recruitment.
- Connecting Sichuan, a $45 million project undertaken with the Chinese government following the May 12 earthquakes.
Prior to joining Cisco, Mr. Fowler was Assistant Superintendent for Business Affairs and General Council for schools in Riverside County and South Central Los Angeles, California. He has taught at the high school level and was an adjunct at the University of Arizona. Mr. Fowler has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctor from Western State University. He is a Digital Vision Fellow at Stanford University developing innovative low-cost low-power education solutions and serves on the jury for the Index Design for Life Awards.
