SchoolCenter Announces Winners of Second Annual Imaginative Classroom Contest
Five Winning Classrooms Showcase Student Achievement through Best-in-Class Web Environments that Increase Interaction and Engagement
CARBONDALE, Ill., March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- SchoolCenter, the leader in strategic K-12 web solutions, today announced the results of their second annual Imaginative Classroom contest. Five winners were selected from nearly 300 entries that showcased how interactive and engaging web environments can help support student engagement, learning and achievement.
The contest, which is open to all SchoolCenter clients, recognizes creative uses of SchoolCenter software in the classroom to improve student engagement in the K-12 market. Entrants were asked to provide examples of how they used their classroom website to interact with students and how the new website has improved communication with parents. Winners were chosen according to pre-defined criteria: usability, student interaction and engagement and parental involvement and communication.
This year's winners include:
- Grand Prize: Julie Sloup - Virginia Williamson Elementary School (Brunswick County Schools, NC)
- 1st Runner Up: Jeremy Dove - Monticello High School (Albemarle Schools, VA)
- 2nd Place: Donna Kehres - Hudson Elementary (Webster Groves, MO)
- 3rd Place: Stefan Anders - Harnett Central Middle School (Harnett County, NC)
- 4th Place Andrew Schwen - Roosevelt Middle School (Anoka Hennepin District #1, MN)
Virginia Williamson Elementary School took Grand Prize with a playful and interactive website that includes a "Digital Detectives" section, where students use suggested databases to answer engaging questions and submit their answers through the site. The site also hosts a "Battle of the Books" contest where students can discuss their favorite books on an online discussion board. Other features include fun survey questions each month, website feedback features and useful student resources for course assignments.
"We are thrilled with the quality and quantity of entries we received this year for the Imaginative Classroom award," said Mary McCaffrey, CEO of SchoolCenter. "In just our second year of the contest, we have increased participation by 200 entries.
