School Choice Supporters to Discuss Illinois Education Policies
ROCKFORD, Ill., Jan. 21, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Join Rep. Joe Sosnowski and a panel of community leaders for a school choice discussion on the Invest in Kids Act on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m.
The discussion will take place at the Rockford Christian School and will feature panelists from Empower Illinois, Rockford Lutheran School, the Rockford Archdiocese, and Americans for Prosperity.
This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.
"Students deserve a more effective school system and parents want, and deserve, more choice in their children's education," said Lennie Jarratt, project manager at The Heartland Institute. "We look forward to coming together for an honest discussion of school choice and how we can increase educational freedom in Illinois."
The Invest in Kids Scholarship Tax Credit Program was enacted in 2017 and offers an income tax credit to individuals and businesses that contribute to qualified Scholarship Granting Organizations (SGOs). The SGOs provide scholarships for students who meet the income requirements to attend qualified, non-public schools in Illinois.
This event is sponsored by The Heartland Institute, a national nonprofit research and education organization, in partnership with Rep. Sosnowski, Americans for Prosperity and the Illinois Conservative Union.
As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 20 through 26, 2019, more than 40,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week. For more information, visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com.
