School Choice Champions Elected to Louisiana Legislature and Board of Elementary and Secondary Education
BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Louisiana Federation for Children today celebrated the victories of school choice supporters to the Louisiana Legislature and Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) during Saturday's statewide primary elections. Through heavy investment and support in both Democratic and Republican races throughout the state, the LFC PAC played an important role in the success of electing reform-minded, school choice proponents.
Investments in the BESE races included those for candidates Jim Garvey, Kira Orange Jones, Jay Guillot, Chas Roemer, and Holly Boffy. In District 5, Jay Guillot ousted incumbent Keith Guice, while in District 7, Holly Boffy defeated incumbent Dale Bayard. Other reform supporters include Jim Garvey, who was re-elected in District 1, and Chas Roemer (District 6), Carolyn Hill (District 8), and Kira Orange Jones (District 2) who lead the polls heading into the Nov. 19 runoff.
In the state Senate, the bipartisan LFC PAC invested in Senate District 11 in support of Jack Donahue's successful reelection bid, and Senate District 24 in support of Elbert Lee Guillory, who has a lead in the polls heading into the runoff. Endorsed by the LFC PAC, Bodi White won election to Senate District 6, and John Smith of Senate District 30 leads heading into the runoff.
House of Representative candidates receiving investments from the LFC PAC and winning their elections include Joel Robideaux, Richie Burford, Alan Seabaugh, Simone Champagne, Chris Hazel, Steve Pugh, Jeff Arnold, Tim Burns, and Patrick Jefferson. Other school choice champions endorsed by the LFC PAC and winning elections in the House of Representatives include Franklin Foil, Lance Harris, Valarie Hodges, Johnny Berthelot, and Paul Hollis. Don Menard and Ray Garofalo, also endorsed by the LFC PAC, lead heading into the runoff.
