Schneider Electric's Work with the College of Southern Nevada Earns Top Project of the Year Award from Environment + Energy Leader
- This is the fourth year in a row that Schneider Electric's work has been honored as a Project of the Year
- This win accompanies two other Project of the Year Awards for Schneider Electric's work with the City of Sierra Vista, Nev. and the Stockton, Calif. Unified School District
BOSTON, July 27, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, today announced that its work with the College of Southern Nevada received a Top Project of the Year Award in the Environment + Energy Leader Awards program. The win is an indication that the program's expert judges consider Schneider Electric and the College of Southern Nevada's partnership to improve occupant comfort and minimize energy use a top example of the exemplary work being done today in the fields of energy and environmental management.
The College of Southern Nevada and Schneider Electric have a historic partnership dating back over 20 years, encompassing building management system installation, student mentoring, consulting engineer participation, and financial support to the CSN Foundation. The relationship has contributed to a 5% decrease in energy usage each year. Before the partnership was initially implemented, energy bills were as much as $3 million a year, and have since been halved to about $1.5 million through the adoption of Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure™ Building Operation 3.0, EcoStruxure Access Expert, Video Expert, lighting control and Accutrol Precision Air Valves. In addition, Schneider Electric provides EcoStruxure products to CSN so students can learn on technology that they will encounter in the real world, hires CSN students and graduates to intern and work in the field of intelligent buildings, and recently contributed $100,000 to support the new CSN and Nevada State College Englestad Health Sciences building.
One Environment + Energy Leader Awards judge said of the CSN-Schneider Electric partnership, "The most recent cost saving improvements have been funded entirely from the savings generated by prior efforts—this is an achievement that most responsible energy and environmental managers dream of."
Another added, "Setting up learning systems that allow students to practice on smart buildings while at the same time saving the school energy and money is a win-win."
The Environment + Energy Leader Awards is a program recognizing excellence in products and services that provide companies with energy and environmental benefits, and in projects implemented by companies that improved environmental or energy management and increased the bottom line. This is the fourth year in a row that a Schneider Electric partnership has been named a Project of the Year.
"With rapid advancements and a near-constant rate of change in the field, sustainability and energy professionals had to prove to our judges that they were really the best of the best this year," says Sarah Roberts, Environment + Energy Leader publisher.
Schneider Electric's work with the College of Southern Nevada was not the only company project honored as a Project of the Year this year—both the City of Sierra Vista, Nev. and the Stockton, Calif. Unified School District's work with Schneider Electric were chosen as well.
"With a highly respected (and critical) judging panel and a strict set of judging criteria, entrants faced an extremely high bar to qualify for an award," says Roberts.
