- SmartDrive Platform Chosen After Competitive Evaluation of Four Video-Based Solutions
- New Transportation Intelligence Platform Enables Fleet to Focus on Safety Today While Planning for the Future
- Proven Video Safety Program Selected to Reduce Collision Frequency and Claims Costs
- Fleet Cited Superior Customer Service, Fast Analysis of Recorded Events and Unmatched Program Flexibility as Key Factors in Selection of SmartDrive Platform
SAN DIEGO, March 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- SmartDrive Systems, a leader in video-based safety and transportation intelligence, today announced that Schilli Corporation, a leading transportation services company, has adopted the SmartDrive® Transportation Intelligence Platform with SR4 hardware and proven video-based safety program to improve overall fleet safety. After reviewing four different safety systems and conducting an extensive pilot, Schilli chose to deploy the SmartDrive program across its entire fleet of more than 300 vehicles. Key factors that led to the selection of the SmartDrive program included superior customer service, rapid insight from quick review and analysis of captured events, unmatched flexibility, and easy access to vehicle data from the engine control unit for additional context around events.
"We look to our suppliers to provide us with the latest innovations that will work for us today and position us for success in the future, and SmartDrive does just that," stated Bob Schilli, Jr., vice president, Schilli Corporation. "After evaluating video-based solutions from four providers and completing a successful pilot, the SmartDrive program proved to be the best fit for meeting our business needs today, and preparing us for future challenges as the industry continues to evolve."
The team was impressed with the SmartDrive SmartChoice™ program, which offers unprecedented flexibility to choose the optimal level of video protection to fit unique business needs and allows fleets to easily adjust specific components of their program. Providing even more options for customization, the SR4 hardware allows for up to nine cameras on each vehicle and integrates easily with those from third parties.
"The additional features offered by the new SR4 hardware were especially attractive, and made us confident we were selecting the most advanced solution," added Schilli. "In particular, we were drawn to the posted speed monitoring, additional storage for extended recording capabilities, the 4G modem for faster communications and the new SmartSense™ ADAS sensors."
Schilli fleet managers recognize the critical role driver coaching plays in reducing risk and preventing collisions. Since adopting the SmartDrive program, which provides insight into the specific skills each driver needs to improve and allows individualized coaching, the fleet has already seen a reduction in collisions. Additionally, drivers have embraced the SmartDrive Safety Scores—consistent, objective measurements of each driver's performance—as a way to easily understand and track changes in their driving performance.
"We appreciate the opportunity to coach those drivers who may not know they are engaging in a habit that could potentially lead to a collision," commented Ken Humphries, vice president of safety and employee relations, Schilli Corporation. "When we presented the SmartDrive program and the coaching opportunities it affords to our drivers, they accepted it and understood it's there to protect them. In fact, we didn't lose a single driver as a result of the rollout. Another significant benefit is that when drivers are involved in an incident that's not their fault, we're not wasting time or money fighting claims, because we can prove exactly what happened with video. We've already found that these exonerations are paying for the system."
Schilli Corporation was established more than 55 years ago and is a family-owned business delivering a full suite of transportation services primarily in the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States. An innovative company, Schilli is committed to leveraging the best available technology, whether crafted in-house, such as their patented trailer design used for viscous products, or third-party solutions such as the SmartDrive video-based safety platform. Schilli has deployed the SmartDrive program across all five of its operating companies: Contractors Cartage, Inc., Material Delivery Service, Inc., Bulk Transport Co., Truck Transport, Inc. and Keightley Bros., Inc.
"We're proud to add Schilli Corporation to the growing list of customers supported by our new Transportation Intelligence Platform and SR4 hardware," said Steve Mitgang, SmartDrive CEO. "Schilli required a solution with options for adjusting the level of coverage as the company grows and evolves. As the most flexible program on the market, we understand that no two fleets are the same, and all have unique safety and business challenges. With a fully customizable program, SmartDrive is always a perfect fit."
