Schaeffler Celebrates 40th Anniversary and Expansion of Puebla, Mexico Operations
Hosts grand opening of new plant as it celebrates 40th anniversary of original facility
PUEBLA, Mexico, Dec. 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of the 40th anniversary of its Puebla, Mexico facility and the grand opening of a second facility in Huejotzingo, Puebla, Schaeffler is hosting an anniversary celebration and grand opening ceremony today. At the event located at Schaeffler's new Puebla facility, company executives and local dignitaries will enjoy a technical exhibition, ribbon-cutting ceremony and plant tour.
In honor of the milestone and inauguration, Georg Schaeffler, Schaeffler Group partner and chairman of the supervisory board, Carlos Alberto Morales Alvarez, mayor of Huejotzingo, and Rafael Moreno Valle, governor of the state of Puebla, are joining company executives to help commemorate Schaeffler's latest accomplishment.
"This second Puebla facility represents the demand for our new torque converter technologies and it provides an ideal location for future growth near our customers," Marc McGrath, president of automotive North America for Schaeffler, said. "This location is built upon 40 years of know-how, which is illustrated by its highly sophisticated manufacturing technology, skilled tool design team, and research and development center."
Schaeffler's new plant in Huejotzingo is dedicated to the production of torque converters for U.S. and Japanese automakers. The new plant offers 172,000-square feet of production space and will employ approximately 550 employees. Schaeffler is already developing plans for a future expansion of this facility.
Schaeffler's original Puebla facility, with 240,000-square feet of production space and approximately 1,100 employees, manufactures clutch discs, conventional, self-adjusting and double clutches, actuators, and solid and dry dual mass flywheels for a number of global automakers.
Combined, both plants offer Schaeffler's global automotive customers world-class product development and manufacturing services, including:
- In-house product design from R&D engineers trained in Germany and the United States;
- A number of simulation tools, including Clusys calculation, FeSA and FEA stress analysis, and FEA stiffness analysis;
- Prototyping development and support expertise;
- Lab and vehicle testing, including 10 testing rigs and a variety of NVH / release systems equipment;
- Modern machining equipment, including CNC vertical and horizontal lathes, wire and sink EDM machines, CNC milling centers, as well as jig grinding, no flat grinding and cylindrical grinding machines;
- Reman dismantling; and
- A number of environmental initiatives, including the use of an anaerobic biodigestor and chemical ion exchanger to allow for water reuse.
