SCAD student Jessica Ferreira wins $30,000 Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship
Student honored with Young Menswear Association scholarship for made-to-order 3D-printed footwear collection
Record number of SCAD students recognized at annual event
NEW YORK, Jan. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) announced today that Jessica Ferreira (B.F.A, fashion) received one of four $30,000 Geoffrey Beene National Scholarships awarded for 2016 from the Young Menswear Association (YMA). Ferreira was awarded the scholarship for her made-to-order 3D-printed footwear collection titled "Shoes with Real Souls," comprised of shoes made to fit the exact measurements of a person's foot, detected by body scanning technology. The awards were presented on January 12 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
An additional 11 SCAD students representing the university's fashion, fashion marketing and management, and fibers programs offered at its Savannah, Atlanta and Hong Kong locations each received $5,000 YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF) scholarships. This is the largest number of SCAD students to be recognized in one year by the annual program. Since 2014, two SCAD students have been awarded with YMA Geoffrey Beene National Scholarship and a total of 28 have received $5,000 YMA FSF awards.
