SCAD reports ninety-one percent graduate employment rate
SAVANNAH, Ga., Oct. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) today released the results of a study that examined employment rate of its Spring Class of 2012. The study is conducted by SCAD's office of institutional effectiveness to garner a better understanding of the career path of recent graduates.
Key findings from the study revealed:
- Ninety-one percent of combined undergraduate and graduate respondents reported being employed, pursuing further education or both within nine months of graduation
- Ninety-six percent of eLearning graduates reported being employed, pursuing further education or both within nine months of graduation.
- Of the total number of employed respondents, 86 percent are working in the industry for which they studied or in a related field.
"Since the co-founders created the university thirty-five years ago, the mission has been to educate talented students to be professional artists and designers," said Gokhan Ozaysin, Chief Academic Officer at SCAD. "These results underscore their vision becoming a reality–with four locations around the world, a robust online learning program and nearly 30,000 alumni–SCAD is defining art and design education."
"SCAD continually prepares and trains our students to be ready to thrive in a competitive marketplace," said Josh Lind, Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) Director at SCAD. "As an example, the programs and projects we work on through the CLC, interacting directly with potential employers with adaptive thinking, real-world deadlines and team work, demonstrate to potential employers that our graduates come out of SCAD ready to participate as productive professionals in their careers."
Employment data is gathered annually by SCAD to ascertain the employment and continuing education information of its graduates with the goal of monitoring alumni career development as well as assisting and advising in the pursuit of employment or further education. Results of the study reflect information from 85 percent of the Spring 2012 graduates—a total of 1,112 undergraduate and graduate student respondents—from Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia; Hong Kong; and eLearning.
