RACINE, Wis., Oct. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SC Johnson today announced the donation of $5,000 to support the restoration of the gardening program at the James A. Peterson Veterans Village, located at 1624 Yout Street in Racine. The company's donation provides support to meet and exceed an unmet GoFundMe fundraiser goal of $1,000.
A recent fire destroyed a gardening shed along with tools, equipment and supplies.
"The Veterans Village is a wonderful new asset within our community," said Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President – Global Corporate Affairs, Communication and Sustainability at SC Johnson. "It was sad to hear about the fire and loss of gardening equipment, but we're happy to help them rebuild and enable them to continue the great work they do for the community."
While the shed has already been replaced, the donation will complete the fundraising goal, as well as provide additional program funding for Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin, which leads the Veterans Village project. The organization is nearing completion of the construction of 15 "tiny homes" for homeless veterans.
"We're grateful to SC Johnson for this incredibly generous gift and believing in our mission," said Jeff Gustin, Executive Director of Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin.
SC Johnson works to make lives better in the communities in which it does business. Since 1937, the company has given 5 percent of all pretax profits to charities every year.
