S&C Electric Company Unveils 3rd Generation Self-Healing Solutions for the Smart Grid at DistribuTECH
CHICAGO, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- S&C Electric Company, a Smart Grid leader shaping the future of reliable electric delivery, today announced an enhanced product and software suite for the intelligent distribution grid featuring IntelliTEAM SG™, S&C's 3rd generation Automatic Restoration System. This advanced solution performs fault isolation and rapid self-healing of the distribution system, restoring power in seconds. IntelliTEAM SG also reduces the complexity of deploying advanced distribution automation.
This release continues S&C's string of innovations for the Smart Distribution Grid, including the award-winning IntelliRupter® PulseCloser and SpeedNet™ Radios. When combined, these best-in-class products – hardware, software, and communications – provide an unmatched solution for advanced automation. Each technology was developed to leverage the maximum potential of the others to meet future requirements for a smart, flexible distribution grid that delivers improved reliability and efficiency.
"This offering is built upon 15 years of success with the field-proven IntelliTEAM product family," said Witold Bik, Vice President of S&C's Automation Systems Division. "IntelliTEAM SG runs on a new architecture designed to support future requirements of the Smart Grid, while operating at dramatically increased speeds."
IntelliTEAM SG leverages decentralized intelligence and peer-to-peer networking technology to accomplish restoration faster than any other solution available on the market. The power grid is becoming increasingly dynamic and complex, driven by requirements to integrate renewable energy like solar, wind or stored energy sources, as well as the need to address peak loading issues and the demand aberrations of plug-in electric vehicles. IntelliTEAM SG provides an efficient, flexible, robust solution that will be required to handle these complex requirements. It is also a scalable solution that addresses diverse requirements, from the simplest to the most complex systems. It can encompass a virtually unlimited number of devices.
As part of its enhanced product suite, S&C announced the launch of additional new features that include an option for single-phase tripping on IntelliRupter. IntelliRupter utilizes S&C's revolutionary PulseClosing™ Technology, which significantly reduces wear-and-tear on utility distribution systems.
The company has also launched SpeedLINK™ Radio Network Monitoring Software, which complements the SpeedNet system by allowing utilities to monitor the health of their radio network. With SpeedLINK, users are alerted to potential problems in their communications network so they can solve problems before they occur.
Jack Li, Vice President of Distribution for Calgary-based ENMAX, said, "IntelliTEAM has been highly successful at ENMAX. It has saved more than 12 million customer minutes of interruption to date, and we look forward to it continuing to help us achieve our reliability goals."
