SBA, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Kicks Off National Veterans Small BusinessWeek with Entrepreneurship Panels
WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, Oct. 31, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation's "Hiring Our Heroes" initiative will co-host two panel discussions on veteran entrepreneurship at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The event runs from 9-11 a.m. and is open to the press. Although registration is full, the public is welcome to participate via Facebook Live: https://www.facebook.com/HiringOurHeroes/
The first panel will feature a military veteran, two military spouses and one active duty service member who run successful businesses. They'll talk about how their military community experience influences their entrepreneurship, share some of the challenges they faced and lessons learned.
The business owner panel will be moderated by Meghan Ogilvie, CEO of Dog Tag Bakery, Inc. Business owners panelists are: Rich Kelley, co-founder of cybersecurity startup Gray Tier Technologies, Jennifer Pilcher of MilitaryOneClick, Dequinton Richmond of Rich's Blues & BBQ, and Ximena Rozo of Ximena Rozo Design, a design firm.
The second panel features senior representatives from the Departments of Labor, Defense, the SBA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation who will discuss programs and policy aimed at supporting small business ownership among veterans, and ways to expand resources to aspiring entrepreneurs.
National Veterans Small Business Week (NVSBW) runs from Oct. 31-Nov. 4. This year's theme is "Veteran Entrepreneurs: Success Across Generations." Local events—which include "Boots to Business: Reboot" entrepreneurship training and access to capital workshops—will be held nationwide to connect service members, veterans, Reserve and National Guard members and military spouses with resources to start and grow their businesses.
